You will start your trip out in Belize City, Belize where you will fly into Belize City International Airport and spend a day exploring the rich history of the Mayan Ruins.

  1. Explore the history of Altun Ha

Take a hop, skip, drive over to the Mayan Ruins of Altun Ha where you can learn the history of ancient Mayan civilizations. Take a tour and shop with the local villagers.

Altun Ha is located 31 miles north of Belize City on the Old Northern Highway. A two-mile dirt road connects the main road to the site. The area around the Altun Ha is rich in wildlife including armadillos, bats, squirrels, agouti, paca, foxes, raccoons, coati, tyra, tapir and the white-tailed deer. Two hundred species of birds have been recorded and there are large crocodiles that inhabit the Maya-made water reservoir. Altun Ha, a major ceremonial and vital trade center during the Classic Period, has two principal plazas. The most significant find of Altun Ha is the Maya Jade Head, which represents the Mayan Sun God, Kinich Ahua; it is the largest object carved of jade in the Maya civilization. And one of the crown jewels of Belize.

Directions

From Belize City, take the Northern Highway for about ½ hour just after passing Sandhill Village. Take the Old Northern Highway on your right for 14 miles. On your left, take the Rockstone Pond Road towards the reserve for 2 miles.

2. Take a splash Cave Tubing and Zip-lining

Take a short 30 minute drive to Crystal Cave to splash into Cave Tubing through the historical Crystal Cave. Start your tour out by tubing through the cave where you can then get out of your tube and explore the sacred Mayan Underworld that has been dated back before 300-900 AD.

3. Fly or Sail over the Blue Hole

Take a short 15-30 minute flight from Belize City to Ambergris Caye to fly or sail over the Blue Hole. The Blue Hole is located in the center of the Lighthouse Reef, named one of the top 10 diving sites in the world. Dive, fish, or swim over the 1,000 feet deep hole for an unforgettable adventure.

Be sure to look into resort stays early as hotels close to the Blue Hole fill up quickly.

3. Cruise through San Pedro

Take a quick 15-30 minute flight from Belize City to the beautiful island of San Pedro (approximately $190 rt) or a 1.5 hour water taxi (approximately $50 rt). Rent a golf cart in order to cruise around the island, as this is the main source of transportation for most islanders and tourist.

4. Snorkel at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley

Dive into the worlds second largest Coral Reef Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The spacious, yet shallow reef is home to over 190 different species of fish and includes 4 different zones; one of which includes Shark Ray Alley where you can swim with the hammer head and other species of sharks. Spend the day swimming by Sea Turtles and Sting Rays.

5. Relax and enjoy a Rum Punch at Secret Beach

Take a 30 minute self guided golf cart tour across the island of San Pedro to Secret Beach. Where you can enjoy a rum punch cocktail made with the countries local rum or an amazing lobster burger from one of the beach bars. You can choose from the adventurous opportunities and take a jet ski or kayak out and enjoy the waves of the ocean or relax with a nice massage on the beach. Be sure to head our there before dark as the trek back can be quite mysterious and dark on the way back.
